VAWA Forms Updated By HUD

Congress initially passed the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in 1994 to address the serious issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. In 1995, the Office on Violence Against Women was established to provide communities nationwide with financial and technical assistance to help them develop programs, policies, and practices aimed at ending domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Congress reauthorized VAWA in 2000, 2005, 2013, and most recently in 2022. Part of the Act requires that tenants who are in Communities to which the Act applies (Sec. 8 tenants, LIHTC tenants, and others) MUST receive a copy of certain VAWA-related Forms along with their 30 day NTV letters.

Yesterday, HUD has released updated versions of those two forms: the Notice of Occupancy Rights (form 5380) and the Certification of Domestic Violence (form 5382). Be sure that you are familiar with these new forms, and are incorporating them into your NTV notice process both this month and into the future!

The forms are available on our website and will not expire until January 31, 2028.
